Food security and agriculture: accelerating adaptation (SAGA 2)

SAGA 2 in Senegal

Senegal

In Senegal, the agricultural sectors, which employ half of the active population and are essential for the country's development and food security, remain vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. As a historical partner of the project, Senegal, through SAGA 2, is intensifying its collaboration to implement its climate objectives related to agricultural adaptation.

SAGA 2 supports the implementation of the priorities outlined in Senegal's National Adaptation Plan (NAP) 2024-2050 and the adaptation component of its 2020 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the agricultural sectors. The project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) and the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition (METE), as well as academic and research institutions, and civil society organizations, in particular rural women and youth.

Policy support
    • Assessment of the state climate adaptation implementation for the agricultural sector, identifying gaps and opportunities
    • Development and political validation of an action plan, including an implementation strategy for the NAP-Agriculture
    • Finalization and political validation of the Long-Term Strategy (LTS) for low-carbon development and climate resilience in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector, aligned with the NAP and NDC
    • Capacity building for experts of MASAE and METE, as well as civil society on climate change adaptation, NAP implementation, resource mobilization, and agroecological transition
