The CCASIA Region - Regional Coordinator Japan
The Coordinating Committee for Asia was established at the 11th Meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission held in Rome, Italy, in July 1976. Its first meeting was held in New Delhi (India) in January 1977.
The regional coordinator operates from within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
Japan, as the regional coordinator for Asia, aims to pursue the following goals while upholding the Codex core values, i.e. inclusiveness, collaboration, consensus building, and transparency
- Foster collaboration and coordination within the region by facilitating the exchange of views, so that Asian members can be well-informed and effectively participate in the Commission and its subsidiary bodies; and,
- Promote open and constructive discussions at the Regional Coordinating Committee to identify the current, emerging, and critical issues concerning consumer health protection and ensuring fair practices in the food trade within the region, and to address these issues in a timely manner.

World Food Safety Day / Bangladesh event unveils food safety magazine and calls for collaboration

World Food Safety Day / Japan association holds a successful event
The Japan Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) commemorated World Food Safety Day on 7 June in a hybrid event. This year marks the fourth time the event has been held.
A total of 436 people participated in the event, both on-site and online.

Strengthening Global Network for Food Safety Through Total Diet Study Collaboration in the Asia-Pacific Region
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea and the World Health Organization are co-organizing a workshop in Seoul, South Korea, about total diet studies (TDS) and food safety “Strengthening Global Network for Food Safety Through Total Diet Study Collaboration in the Asia-Pacific Region” on 18-19 June 2025.
Total diets studies is the gold standard for assessing dietary intakes, through the combination of individual food consumption data with food composition data from representative samples, prepared as consumed.

Lao People’s Democratic Republic boosts food safety with FAO and Codex Trust Fund support
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic is reinforcing its commitment to food safety with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, and the Codex Trust Fund (CTF).
