This milestone invites all of us to celebrate early and take part in a year-long tribute. Plan events throughout the year, showcasing actions, innovations, and best practices that advance a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food future. 

Don’t miss the special exhibit at the Marble Staircase inside FAO Headquarter, highlighting FAO’s eight decades of impactful work. Through group visits, explore how FAO has advanced the fight against hunger, promoted sustainable agriculture, and empowered communities worldwide.

Junior World Food Week wrap-up 

The fourth edition of Junior World Food Week celebrated the theme “Right to Food: For a Better Life, a Better Future”, highlighting the vital role of youth and educators in shaping a sustainable food future. The event engaged 1,500 attendees at FAO headquarters and reached an additional 28,500 global viewers via live streams. 

Highlights included live performances, interactive games, and inspiring guest appearances by Food Heroes like the Harlem GlobetrottersChef Max Mariola, and Matteo Ward. Workshops such as “Upcycle a T-shirt” and a cooking session with Chef Binta promoted sustainability, creativity, and respect for food. This week underscored the importance of empowering the next generation to champion the right to food for all.

The Food and Agriculture Museum and Network

To be inaugurated on World Food Day, 16 October 2025, the new FAO museum will serve as a permanent exhibition and educational space open to the public. Dedicated to food and agriculture and our connection to it, the museum will explore FAO’s mandate in an interactive, digital environment. It will foster knowledge-sharing and innovation, and celebrate global culinary traditions.

Explore the new decades of the FAO80 Exhibit!

As FAO’s 80th anniversary approaches on 16 October 2025, the FAO80 exhibit continues to grow, floor by floor, unveiling the 2nd and 3rd decades of the Organization’s history on the Marble Staircase! Discover the milestones and curiosities that have shaped FAO’s legacy, from eliminating river blindness to setting food safety standards. Enriched by contributions from departments across FAO, the exhibit highlights FAO’s wide-ranging work and global impact. Don’t miss your chance to witness history in motion and be part of the celebration in the making.

Sixth Edition of the FAO Open Day

FAO is reopening its doors to the public on Saturday, 31 May and Sunday, 1 June as part of the Open House Roma initiative.

You can explore Organization’s new renovations and architecture through a selection of FAO’s iconic meeting rooms where global leaders come together to fight hunger and poverty worldwide and admire the international art collection and archaeological finds from ancient Rome. You will also learn more about the Organization’s mandate and work.

Bookings will be open from 5 May at 12.00.

Reimagine the ancient city through a fresh lens! Explore how Pompeii’s rich agricultural heritage and history spark innovative ideas for a sustainable future for all. Launching May 22 in Pompeii, the unique educational experience, developed through a partnership between FAO and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, invites visitors to explore 14 key sites across the ruins. Guided by the MyPompeii app, learn how the wisdom of the past can inspire a better future, reflecting the shared commitment of FAO and the Park to the Sustainable Development Goals.
